Recipe Ingredients

  • Basmati rice – 2 cups
  • Paneer – 200 gms.
  • Green peas – 2 cups
  • Onion (Sliced) – 1 medium
  • Ginger garlic paste – 1 tsp
  • Green chilly – 2-3
  • Garam masala powder – 1/2 tsp
  • Coriander powder – 1 tsp
  • Red chilly powder – 1/2 tsp
  • Salt – To taste
  • Water – 2 1/2 cups (For pressure cooking)
  • Oil – 3-4 tsp

Whole spices –

  • Bay leaf – 2
  • Black cardamom – 2
  • Black peppercorns – 5-8
  • Cumin seeds – 1 1/2 tsp

How to make Paneer Pulao - Spicy Steamed Rice with Paneer and Matar

  • Wash n soak rice in sufficient water for half an hour. Strain away the excess water and keep aside.
  • Cut paneer into 1 inch pieces. Now, heat oil in a pressure cooker and shallow fry paneer till golden. Trasfer to a plate. In the same oil add cumin seeds, bay leaves, black peppercorns, black cardamom and allow to crackle.
  • To this add green chilly, sliced onion & fry till they attain a lovely brown color. Add ginger garlic paste, garam masala pd, coriander pd, red chilly powder and saute till the masala leaves oil.
  • Add soaked rice and give a good mix. Saute for 2 minutes so that all the flavors come together.
  • Now add water, salt, green peas and pressure cook for 2-3 whistles or till the peas are cooked well. Remove from flame.

When the pressure settles, open the lid. Mix in the golden paneer pieces and serve hot as suggested above.

Tip –

  • To add on the flavors, add some assorted veggies of choice and dry fruits!
