How to make Matar Paneer

  • To begin with making this aromatic ‘Matar Paneer Curry’, we need to get ready with our masala purees.
  • For this peel n roughly chop onion. Grind to a fine puree with some water. Keep aside.
  • Next roughly chop tomato and grind to a puree. Keep aside.
  • Boil green peas with sufficient water for 7-10 minutes if using fresh peas, otherwise in case you’re using frozen peas, boil for 2-3 minutes or till cooked to your perfection. Discard the water and keep boiled peas aside.
  • Now cut paneer into 1 inch cubes.
  • In a pan heat oil and shallow fry the paneer cubes on medium to high flame till it gets a golden texture. Transfer to a plate.
  • Do not switch off the flame, but in the same oil add all the whole spices and fry for a minute on low flame till they give out aroma and attain a darker color.
  • Add in onion puree, turmeric powder and sauté on medium flame till it separates the oil.
  • Time to add in tomato puree, ginger garlic paste, curd and the remaining powdered spices.
  • Stir and cook till everything comes together, masala leaves oil and gives aroma.
  • Now add in the shallow fried paneer cubes, boiled peas, salt and water.
  • Be very careful regarding the amount of water. Due it as per your preference. If you do not want gravy, don’t add water…..in case you want a thick gravy add ½ cup of water and more for a simple gravy.
  • Cook on medium heat till it comes to a boil.
  • Lower the heat and boil for a minute.
