Turmeric Milk or Haldi Doodh is not just a regular drink, but an Ayurvedic recipe to cure cough & cold during winters. Personally I would suggest to have a glassful Turmeric Milk regularly when the seasons are about to change, as it enhances your metabolism protecting from regular viral infections like cough-cold-congestion-skin ailments that might onset. This herbal drink is known from ages due to its anti inflammatory and anti oxidant properties and can prevent from arthritis and stomach ulcers. It is also known as a ‘Natural Aspirin’ and can cure minor headaches, swelling and body ache too.

NOTE – You can make this drink with the regular turmeric powder, but if you use ‘Raw Turmeric’ or ‘Kacchi Haldi’ that is available in markets during winters, then it would be more beneficial.

*Best time to have this turmeric milk is after a light dinner as it comforts you and helps to have a good night sleep.

*Recommended dozes of turmeric milk for kids is 1 glass and for adults 2 glasses on regular basis.

*If having serious cough, cold or congestion then take turmeric milk with a pinch of freshly pounded black pepper. If ailments still persist, then consult your physician.

*If you're underweight and trying to gain some, then have this turmeric milk with 1-2 aate ke ladoos in winters. This would help.

Recipe Ingredients

  • Milk – 2 glasses
  • Raw turmeric (Kacchi haldi) – 1 inch piece
  • Sugar or honey – 1 tablespoon or to taste

How to make Turmeric Milk

  • Making turmeric milk is really easy and you can do this on regular basis.
  • So, let us start…..scrap the skin of raw turmeric the same way as you do for ginger. Grate it and keep aside.
  • Now take milk in a saucepan. Add in the grated turmeric, sugar/honey and bring to a boil.
  • You would now notice that the milk has attained a lovely golden color. Remove from heat and cover with a lid or plate.
  • Keep it to rest for 10-15 minutes. This would not only make it bearable to drink, but also bring out the goodness of turmeric traces that are still lying in it.
  • Pass the milk to a sieve and serve in glasses or coffee mugs while it is still warm.
