Baked Croutons make an excellent topping for Soups, Salads and one of the easiest things to make at home. In most of the restaurants you get 'Fried' Croutons on a soup which is completely pointless to have if you are having a nourishing soup. So here we bring you this easy recipe to make delicious bread croutons at home that are BAKED to perfection and not fried.

Though you can buy a pack of ready made croutons from a departmental store, but they can never outmatch the quality and flavor of these homemade ones. These croutons can also be seasoned with whatever flavor you want, for instance here we have made wonderful and crunchy Herbed Croutons with Garlic and Coriander. You can experiment making with various other ingredients like Paprika, Masala, Spinach, Parsely, Black Pepper or whatever innovative you can come up with. Also try any variety of Bread you like whether Whole Grain, Atta Bread, Multigrain Bread, Brown Bread, Bun, Pav or anything that is left in your pantry.

Recipe Ingredients

  • Bread slices - 4
  • Salt - To taste
  • Garlic (Finely chopped) - 2 cloves
  • Olive oil - 1 tablespoon
  • Fresh coriander or parsely (Finely chopped) - 1 tablespoon

How to make Baked Bread Croutons For Soup

To begin with making these Baked Garlicy Herbed Croutons at home we need to follow 3 major steps -

  1. Dicing bread
  2. Tossing with seasonings and olive oil
  3. Baking

Dicing Bread -

  1. Dice the bread in whatever size you prefer. Either cut with a knife into bite size pieces or simply tear small chunks by hand. The basic rule is these pieces should be of uniform size to ensure uniform baking. 

Tossing With Seasonings -

  1. Take these bread pieces in a large mixing bowl. Add in olive oil, salt, chopped garlic, coriander and give a nice toss.  

Baking -

  1. Line a baking tray with aluminium foil and spread these seasoned croutons evenly. Bake in a pre heated oven for 5 minutes at 200 degrees.
  2. Carefully take out the tray, toss croutons and again spread evenly. Bake for another 2-3 minutes or till they are golden and crisp to your perfection.
  3.  Remove from oven and cool on a wire rack. Wonderful Croutons are ready!
