Aloo chokha is a side recipe for Litti. This Chokha is a Bihari recipe of boiled potatoes mixed with green chilli, ginger, coriander and some spices with stuffed Bati or Litti cooked in a Tandoor or Fire.  

Usually it is served with Litti which is a kind of bread just like you have Bati in Rajasthan. Commonly this combination is called Litti Chokha and is a very popular street food from the streets of Bihar.

Recipe Ingredients

  • Potato - 250 gms.
  • Onion finely chopped - 1 tablespoon
  • Tomato chopped - 1 medium
  • Mustard oil - 1 tablespoon
  • Lime juice - 1 tablespoon or to taste
  • Green chilli chopped - To taste
  • Freshly chopped coriander - 2 tablespoon
  • Salt - To taste
  • Ginger chopped - 1 teaspoon
  • Red chilli powder - 1/2 teaspoon

How to make Aloo Chokha For Litti

To make Aloo Chokha is very easy and all you need is some 15 minutes to bring the whole dish together. Also a plus point is that you need to do the cooking just once for boiling potatoes and not after that.

  • So to make Aloo Chokha wash potaoes and boil in pressure cooker with 1.5 cups of water for 6-7 whistles or till done.
  • Peel boiled potatoes and mash them roughly.
  • Transfer these mashed potatoes in a mixing bowl. Add in all the ingredients and mix to combine well.
  • Check taste since you might need to adjust salt, chilli or lime juice to preferance.
  • Aloo Chokha is now ready to serve.
