Recipe Ingredients

  • Water chestnuts (Singhara) - 250 gms.
  • Coriander powder (Dhaniya powder) - 2 teaspoon
  • Cumin powder (Jeera powder) - 1 teaspoon
  • Red chilli powder - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Salt or Sendha Namak - To taste
  • Fresh coriander (Chopped) - A handful
  • Ginger (Chopped) - 1 teaspoon
  • Green chilli (Chopped) - To taste
  • Lime juice - To taste or Optional

How to make Singhare Ki Chaat

To begin with making this drooling Singhare Ki chaat we need to wash and boil Singharas.

Boiling Singharas -

  1. I prefer to boil Singharas in an open pan as it is easier to keep an eye. You may boil in a pressure cooker as well, but in that case be very careful as Singharas turn mushy if over cooked and we do not want that.
  2. For boiling, put singharas in a saucepan or wok and fill with water till they are covered.
  3. Boil on high heat for 10 minutes or so and check if a knife can pass through or not, otherwise continue with boiling.
  4. Once these singharas are cooked, remove from heat and carefully strain away the water.
  5. Let them cool a bit and then slide off the skin.

Making Singhare Ki Chaat -

  1. Take boiled Singharas in a large mixing bowl and mix in all the remaining ingredients.
  2. Toss to combine well so that all the pieces are well coated with the spices.

Singhare Ki Chaat is ready. Serve hot.
