Dubki Wale Aloo is a classic potato recipe from the holy lands of Mathura and Vrindawan. This amazing Dubki Wale Aloo is available almost in every breakfast stall in Mathura. Let’s see how to make this recipe.

The fact that makes Dubki Aloo completely different from the rest of potato curries is that this a complete No Onion Garlic Recipe and the gravy is very thin or runny, though the flavors are amazingly spicy and mouth watering. You get to taste the robust punch of ginger, green chilli, coriander and the perfect balance of garam masala, coriander powder, tomatoes and other assorted spices. Traditionally it is served with Puris and Kachoris and often served in Breakfast with Khasta and Jalebis.

Since I live in Greater Noida which is just a few kilometers away from Vrindawan, hence we usually make weekend trips to this place. This is also a favorite place to hang out or for just another casual long drive on a cool weather. Trips (Darshan) to temples and enjoying the local food like Chaat, Samosa, Kachoris is the best experiance you get without burning a whole in your pocket. Of course, the flavors are unbeatable! So there is a stall on the main road of DwarakaDheesh Temple (Sorry not able to recall the name of that stall) that sells amazing Kachoris with Dubki Wale Aloo. The very first time I relished this lip smacking combo at this joint and simply loved it. So, if you ever get a chance to visit this place, do not miss to have Dubki Aloo with Puris or Kachoris!

Dubki Wale Aloo goes best with Masala Puris or Ajwain Puris alongwith radish salad and fried green chilli. For a change you can also team with Kuttu Puris that are made with Buckwheat Flour which is a very healthy flour as it is rich in proten and fiber. Also it is great for people suffering with Diabetics.

For a light meal you can serve Dubki Aloo with Moong Dal Khichadi, Sesame Rice or Raw Mango Rice.

How to make Dubki Wale Aloo

  • To begin with making this drooling and spicy Dubki Aloo Curry, we need to roughly mash boiled potatoes. Though you can also cut them into cubes, but the classic recipe involves rough and easy methods of cooking. So better to mash potatoes roughly. Keep aside.
  • Now in a pressure cooker heat oil and crackle the whole spices.
  • Add chopped tomato, ginger, green chilli and cook till tomato gets mushy and leaves the sides.
  • Add mashed potato, chopped coriander, salt and all the powdered spices. Mix well to combine.
  • Now add in water and season with salt. Put on the lid of pressure cooker and cook on high flame for one whistle.
  • Reduce the flame and simmer for 5 minutes. Switch off the flame and allow the pressure to release on its own.
  • Mathura style Dubki Aloo Curry is now ready. Garnish with chopped coriander or mint and serve hot with puris or kachoris.
