Nachos are Mexican style Chips or Crackers are usually served with a Dip on side and make excellent appetizers for parties and get together. They also fit perfectly for Holiday snacking, movie time or your fun late night snack when you crave for something instant and tempting as a batch of nachos can be made well in advance and stored in air tight container for few days.

These are 3 ways you can try making Nachos at home i.e.

 1.Deep frying method

 2.Gas top cooking method

 3.Baking

….and here we are providing you with all of these three methods so that you can choose what goes best for you. However the taste and texture varies from what method of cooking you opt. For instance -

Deep fried nachos are golden and crisp. But they do not make a healthy snack.

Nachos cooked over gas top with or without oil are crisp, but not like deep fried ones. They taste more or less like Tortilla chips or Gujarati Khakhra.

Baked nachos are crisp and make a healthy appetizer.

Unlike any other chips, these nachos are thicker and have a characteristic texture due to the use of combination flours, like here we have used whole wheat flour and maize flour that are both healthy and staple at home. Besides we have also seasoned these with a home made ‘Spice Mix’ that adds to the flavors making them more devouring for everyone, though you can also do this with a simple sprinkle of black pepper, paprika or oregano too!

Share a Spicy Palate …..?? …then serve these nachos with a mix of sliced jalapenos, cucumber, onion and your favorite hot sauce.

Well, for any party or just a casual get together at home, ‘Salsa’ is best to serve with nachos and this combo never disappoints me. Make your own zesty Roasted Tomato Salsa and enjoy.

You can also team with an assortment of home made Dips, this would be more fun. Serve nachos in a fancy basket lined up with butter paper and place along small bowls of Guacamole, Roasted garlic Hummus or Curd dip.

Kids would love to enjoy these crisp nachos with a generous topping of cheese and some Sweet chilly sauce on side.

How to make Nachos

The basic preparation of Nachos is the same i.e. making a dough, rolling and cutting. Difference lies in the method of ‘Cooking’.

So after the basic recipe, we would be discussing these cooking methods one by one.

  1. To begin with ,making ‘Nachos’ combine everything listed in first category and make a stiff dough with enough water.
  2. Cover this dough with a wet muslin cloth and keep to rest for about 15 minutes.
  3. After resting, knead the dough once more and divide in into equal size balls.
  4. Now we would proceed with the ‘Rolling’ part. Take one ball, flatten it slightly, dust into flour and roll into a circle. Don’t roll it too thick or thin, keep the sheet moderate. Also do not miss to mark it with a Fork so that they do not puff while cooking.
  5. Cut into triangles or whatever shape you prefer. Now our nachos are ready for cooking which can be done by 3 ways-

Gas Top Cooking Method -

  1. Heat a griddle or pan and place the cut nachos in a single line. Cook on both sides the same way as you do for ‘Rotis’ or you can also apply some oil and cook like ‘Paranthas’.
  2. But do remember this cooking has to be done over ‘Low Flame’ so that nachos come out crispier.

Deep Frying Method -

  1. In this method, you need to heat sufficient oil in a wok or skillet. Drop these nachos carefully and fry over medium heat till golden and crisp.
  2. Remove on a plate lined up with paper napkins to soak the excess oil.
  3. Deep fried nachos are ready. Just let them cool a bit and they would get crispier.

Baking Method -

  1. Line up a baking tray with butter paper or you can simply grease it with some oil.
  2. Place nachos in a single line without overlapping. Do not over crowd.
  3. Bake in a pre heated oven at 200 degrees for about 15-20 minutes or till they get crisp to your perfection.
  4. Remove from oven, cool on a wire rack and serve.
  5. Hope you liked this recipe where we tried our best to share you every fine nuance. Enjoy!!!
