Cabbage masala pav is an irresistible snack that you can make in a jiffy with just few ingredients in hand. This Indian style burger is packed with tantalizing flavors and pairs great with your evening tea or you can also enjoy it with assorted chutneys or pack for picnics. Usually burgers are layered with patties or tikkis made of potatoes or assorted veggies. These patties are often deep or shallow fried that multiply the calorie count. So here we managed to make a delish burger using fresh seasonal cabbage, certain spices and chutneys. Hence this cabbage masala burger is low in calories without compromising on taste and you can enjoy it guilt free. The taste resembles with ‘Dabeli’ which is a popular Gujarati snack.



Cabbage masala burger makes a wholesome tea time snack with poha namkeen and methi khakhra.

Serve as a tongue tickling munching snack or chaat in small festivities and get together with dahi ki chutney, dhaniya pudina chutney and sweet tamarind chutney.

During summers, relish cabbage masala pav as an evening snack with cool and nourishing homemade drinks like sattu ka namkeen sharbat, aam panna or cold coffee.

Recipe Ingredients

Pao/pav – 2

Small cabbage – 1

Onion – 1 medium

Green chilly – 1 teaspoon (Chopped)

Ginger – ½  teaspoon (Grated)

Garam masala powder – 1 teaspoon

Turmeric powder – ½ teaspoon

Red chilly powder – ½ teaspoon

Chaat masala – ½ teaspoon

Coriander mint chutney (Khatti chutney) – To taste

Sweet tamarind chutney (Sonth-meethi chutney) – To taste

Freshly chopped coriander – A handful

Salt – To taste

Butter – As required

Oil – 1 tablespoon

 

To serve –

How to make Cabbage Masala Pav

To begin with making these tantalizing buns, we need to make the spicy masala.

Chop cabbage and onion roughly. We need about 2 cups tightly packed cabbage for 2 servings.

In a pan heat oil and add turmeric powder, ginger, green chilly. Sauté on low flame for half a minute.

Next add in the onion and sauté till pink.

Now add in the remaining powdered spices and chopped cabbage.

Give a toss and cook on medium flame for 1 minute or more till everything comes together and the cabbage turns slight soft but retains the crunch.

Add salt, copped coriander and remove from heat.

Spicy cabbage masala stuffing is ready.

Now take a pao and slit in between horizontally (like you do for burger).

Heat a pan, add butter and roast the pao till golden brown and crisp. Remove from heat.
