‘Aloo methi tikki’ is a great twist to the regular aloo ki tikki. The goodness of fresh methi (Fenugreek) leaves makes these tikkis/cutlets an irresistible tea time snack and party appetizer. These aloo methi tikkis are shallow fried till golden and taste delightful with a cup of masala chai and chutney/sauce of choice. Kids love to have these tikkis with sweet tamarind chutney and this is also a good way to incorporate some greens in their diet.



The recipe is quite simple and easy to follow. Moreover, if you want to treat your family with a special snack on weekends, then combine the ingredients and shape  into tikkis/cutlets in a jiffy. Relish with red raw mango garlic chutney or peanut coriander chutney.

Recipe Ingredients

  • Potato (Boiled/peeled/mashed) – 2 cups
  • Fresh fenugreek/methi (Finely chopped) – ¾ cup
  • Green chilly (Finely chopped) – 2 teaspoon or to taste
  • Ginger (Finely chopped) – 1 teaspoon
  • Salt – To taste
  • Oil – To shallow fry
  • Refined flour – As required for dusting

Powdered spices –

  • Garam masala powder – 1 teaspoon
  • Cumin powder – 1/4 teaspoon
  • Dry mango powder (Amchur) – 1 teaspoon
  • Red chilly powder – 1/2 teaspoon

How to make Aloo Methi Tikki

  • To begin with making these delicious aloo methi tikkis, we need to make the masala first.
  • For this, heat 1 tablespoon of oil in a pan and sauté green chilly, ginger and fresh fenugreek.  Saute on low to medium heat till the raw smell goes and you get a nice aroma.
  • Now add in mashed potato, salt and all the powdered spices. Give a nice mix and cook for 3-5 minutes so that all the flavors can come together.
  • Remove from heat andallow to cool at room temperature.
  • Divide this mixture into lemon size balls.
  • Now grease your palms with oil. Take one ball and shape into tikki/cutlet. You can also use cookie moulds to give different shapes.
  • Dust some refined flour on tikkis. This would give them a nice golden crust.
  • Heat sufficient oil in a pan (Preferably non stick). Place tikkis and shallow fry on medium heat till golden and crisp from both the sides.
  • Transfer to a plate with kitchen napkins to absorb the excess oil and turn off the heat.

‘Aloo methi tikki’ is now ready. Serve hot with with red raw mango garlic chutney , sweet tamarind chutney or peanut coriander chutney.
