Seyal Roti or Seyal Mani recipe hails from the lovely Parsi Cuisine.  Seyal Mani is one of the most prominent dish to turn leftover roti or chapati into an all together new dish that tastes absolute amazing. In most places, this dish is also called ‘Roti Upma’.

Recipe Ingredients

  • Roti/chapati - 4
  • Onion - 1 small
  • Tomato - 1 medium
  • Green chilli (Slit) - 1-2
  • Ginger (Finely chopped) - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Cumin seeds (Zeera) - 1/4 teaspoon
  • Asafoetida (Hing) - A pinch or two
  • Turmeric powder - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Garam masala - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Red chilli powder - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Salt - To taste
  • Water - 1/4 to 1/2 cup depending upon size & thickness of rotis
  • Oil - 1 tablespoon 

To Garnish -

  • Freshly chopped coriander

How to make Seyal Roti or Seyal mani

To begin with making this wonderful Parsi Seyal Roti we need to tear the rotis into bite size pieces.

  1. Now heat oil in a pan. Add cumin seeds, asafoetida, green chilly, ginger and fry for few seconds.
  2. Add chopped onion and cook till it turns soft. To this add chopped tomato and cook till it gets mushy.
  3. Now add in the roti pieces and mix in salt, red chilli powder, garam masala.
  4. Add water and give a nice mix. Keep the flame at low heat and cover the pan with a lid. Let it simmer for 5-7 minutes or till all the water is soaked up.
  5. Remove from heat. Parsi Seyal Roti is ready, garnish with chopped coriander and serve immediately before it gets cold.
  6. Enjoy!
