‘Guacamole’ is a Mexican dip which is made with ripe avocados as the main ingredient and flavors are added with tomatoes, onion, garlic, and a splash of lime juice to balance the richness of avacados. It is quick one to combine, healthy and has a very creamy texture not because of some mayo or cream, but due to the natural creaminess of avocados. So it is one such healthy dip that you can pair with some baked chips and indulge yourself in without any guilt. Add some chopped green chilli or chilli flakes as per your spice preference and enjoy!

Since avocado is the main ingredient of guacamole, a lot depends on the choosing the right one. The first thing you do is look at the avocados. The ones that are the most shiny, fresh looking and green are not ripe enough. They look nice but you will have to wait for a week or so for them to ripen. Pick an avocado with black skin and gently press. It should be soft but not squishy – ripe avocados should have a little give, but still feel firm. It should feel the same way as if you would press on a stick of butter. These are the avocados that are perfect to make guacamole. If they are too hard or too squishy they are either over or under ripe, then won’t taste good.

  • Green Chilly (Chopped) – 1 tsp
  • Black Pepper (Crushed) – 1/4 tsp
  • Salt – To taste

To serve -

  • Olive oil
  • Chilly flakes
  • Crushed pepper

How to make Guacamole

  • Chop onion into fine pieces. Keep aside.
  • Cut the avacado lengthwise, remove the stone and scoop out the pulp.
  • In a bowl take the pulp and mash it with a fork.
  • 4.To this add crushed garlic and all the other ingredients listed above (Except ‘Olive oil’).

’Guacamole’ is ready. Transfer to a serving bowl… top with olive oil, chilly flakes, some freshly ground pepper and serve with your favorite crackers or chips.

Tips

  • 1.Do not mash the avacados too much as this dip tastes great when it is a bit ‘Chunky’. Therefore, ‘Fork’ works best. Do not use an electric pulsar/grinder.
  • Serve the dip immediately. Do not make it in advance and leave on your counter top. It may turn brown and may not taste good n fresh.
  • You can add tomatoes, spring onions, fresh coriander or finely chopped ginger if you like.
