Recipe Ingredients

  • Raw rice – 1 ½ cups
  • Potato – 2 large
  • Onion (Sliced) – 1 medium
  • Ginger garlic paste – 2 teaspoon
  • Garam masala powder – 1 teaspoon
  • Turmeric powder – 1 teaspoon
  • Red chilli powder – 1 teaspoon or to taste
  • Cumin seeds – 2 teaspoon
  • Black cardamom – 2
  • Bay leaf – 2
  • Water – 2 ½ cups (Adjustable)
  • Oil – 1 tablespoon
  • Salt – To taste

How to make Potato Pulao | How to Make Aloo Pulao | Pulaos

  • To start with making ‘Potato Pulao’ we need to wash and soak rice in sufficient water for an hour.
  • Peel potatoes and cut into cubes. Keep aside.
  • Now heat oil in a pressure cooker and add the cumin seeds and bay leaf. Let the spices sizzle.
  • Add turmeric powder, sliced onion and fry till they attain a lovely golden color.
  • To this add ginger garlic paste and sauté till the oil is separated and the raw smell goes.
  • Now add in the potatoes, soaked rice (Drained) and remaining ingredients. Give a nice stir. Close the lid and pressure cook for one whistle.
  • Remove from heat.
  • Do not release the pressure. Let it settle on its own.

Potato pulao is now ready to be served.  Garnish with freshly chopped coriander and serve as suggested above.
