Recipe Ingredients

  • Rice - 1 cup
  • Water (Quantity given in ‘Method’)

How to make Plain Rice

  1. Take 1 cup rice in a bowl, add water, rub the grains gently, you would notice that the water has become pale white.
  2.  Now tilt the bowl over sink to remove the water. While doing this always keep a hand below to prevent rice from falling.
  3. Repeat this process 2-3 times or till you get clear water.

Cooking ‘With Pressure Cooker’ -

  1. So now when the rice is washed put it in a pressure cooker and add 2 cups of water. Put the lid (Cover of pressure cooker) with whistle and black rubber. Close the lid firmly and put on full heat.
  2. Cook upto 1-2 whistles. Switch off the heat and let the pressure settle down on its own.
  3. Open the pressure cooker. Rice is done.

Cooking ‘Without Pressure Cooker’ -

  1. After washing rice put it in a kadai or pan with water 1/2 inches above the level of rice.
  2. Cook on high heat. After it comes to a boil, cover with a lid or plate and cook on low flame for 5-8 minutes or till the water is soaked. Be careful at this point, otherwise you’re going to burn your rice.
  3. After 5-8 minutes switch off the flame and keep the pan covered for 10 minutes. This would make rice more fluffy and evenly cooked.
  4. Rice is ready to eat. Enjoy your meal…!
